Jury decisions

The Transat Jacques Vabre Normandie le Havre Jury chaired by Romain Gautier came to a decision yesterday evening regarding the protests they had received. All of them concerned Class40 boats in the leg between Le Havre and Lorient.
  • Out of the seven protests, three were lodged by the Race Committee. Two of them concerned boats -  Qwanza (Goulven Marie-Nicolas Battesti) and P-Sotraplant-TRS (Matthieu Foulquier Gazagnes-Michel Milanese) – that did not pass through the course gate. They both received a penalty of 90 minutes.

As for L’Envol-Kermarrec Promotion (Anatole Facon-Alice Valiergue) which entered the Casquets TSS off the Channel Islands, they have received a 2-hour penalty.

The technical committee lodged a protest against Martinique Tchalian (Hervé Jean-Marie-Jean-Yves Aglaë) after their lead seal on the propeller shaft was broken in order to change tack off Jersey to repair one of their rudders. They received a 3-hour penalty, but during the hearing with the two skippers, the Jury learnt that the engine had also been used to secure the boat during repairs. The Jury will convene again to examine this case and the penalty inflicted on the Martinique crew may be increased.

  • As for the two collisions at the clearance mark at the start, two cases were examined, following protests from various competitors. Curium Life Forward (Marc Lepesqueux-Renaud Dehareng) received a penalty for an infringement concerning Race Rule 14 (contact must be avoided) and will have to add 12 hours to her race time. Movember (Bertrand Guillonneau-Kito de Pavant), which has already retired from the race, was also considered to have made an error causing a collision for the same reason as Curium Life Forward.

As for the case involving Seafrigo-Sogestran (Cédric Chateau-Guilaume Pirouelle) and Café Joyeux (Nicolas d’Estais-Léo Debiesse), the latter was punished for an infringement of Rules 13 and 14 and will also have to add twelve hours to her race time.

We should add that Curium has requested that their case be reopened and Café Joyeux still has 24 hours to do that once they have been notified of the Jury’s decision.

As for Sogestran-Seafrigo, the damage to which has been acknowledged, with her team working hard to be at the start of the second leg, she is to receive redress. The boat was unable to complete the race to Lorient, so her race time will be the equivalent of the time of the final boat + 6 hours, as laid down in Race Instructions. There still remains the question of redress and how the Jury will calculate that. The competitors will be informed of the decision before the start of the second leg between Lorient and Fort de France.

- It should be noted that a protest was lodged by Legallais (Fabien Delahaye-Corentin Douguet) against Alla Grande Pirelli (Abrogio Beccaria-Nicolas Andrieu), but the judgement will only be pronounced this evening.
