The raison d’etre of the Transat Jacques Vabre
Protection of the environment, all in the DNA of the race
Building on its profile and the image it conveys, the Transat Jacques Vabre association wants to make this race a popular, sustainable and exemplary event. From soft (eco responsible) mobility to the optimization of waste management, the organization has implemented a 360° strategy.
This year, biodiversity is at the heart of the project. First of all because Martinique, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, is once again the final destination, but also because the organization wanted to support the UNESCO Man and Biosphere program which, for the first time, will be associated with a sporting event.
From the natural areas of Le Havre to the island of Martinique, the Coffee Route unifies and highlights the richness of the fauna and flora of these areas. It also makes it possible to connect continents, Europe to America, to bring together populations and preserve ocean and land resources.
A village adapted for people with disabilities
Embracing different communities and feeding the imagination about ocean racing should mean that every enthusiast, without exception, has an access to it in some form. For the Transat Jacques Vabre Normandie Le Havre, people with reduced mobility and/or disabilities therefore must be able to fully enjoy the village and the race start in the same way as everyone else.
Developments to the village's infrastructure have been designed with this in mind and sailing taster trips on appropriate craft will be organized.
Passing on to future generations
Building on its relationship with the Academies of Martinique and Normandy, the Transat Jacques Vabre Normandie Le Havre has published an educational kit for schools. The objective is to immerse young people in the maritime world and evoke the values of racing, including the fight for the preservation of the oceans. All this shared work can only be productive and positive if it is passed on to the younger generations. Instilling the values of sharing in young people, inclusion and protection of our planet, the Transat Jacques Vabre embraces all this through the educational kit made available for teachers and the reception of schoolchildren in the village on Fridays October 20.
